18th century French Court Lady

This is my newest French court doll she is dressed in 18th century silk that is very fine but fragile for its age. I lined it with gold silk to stabilize it, the fabric has the age and wear that really make the doll look that much more authentic . She has a green underskirt of green silk satin and a hooped pannier. she is made like the original court dolls which are more like puppets. carved and painted face. her hair is in a large over the top up-do and very typical of the courtiers .She wears a matching of the same fabrics . I have been making court dolls for the past month or so this one is my second she was enormous fun to make and I hope to make more. please go to the contact tab on the home page. for more information. Thank you everyone for all your comments and interest SOLD

Lady Glen

This is Lady Glen she is spectacular. 12 inches tall she wears the most fabulous dress which I made from  a fragment of 18th century silk embroidered brocade this fabric is in the highly sought after gold color and is embroidered with delicate floral pattern of blue pink and red flowers and floral motifs in silver thread tarnished with age . I was able to get a full sleeve of this fabric and I can only imagine the beautiful dress from which it came. the Fabric was worn espically at the elbows and so I reinforced it for stability with a red lawn fabric.  the red seemed  a perfect choice and just made the gold color pop. I used red silk for the her petticoat and also for the rushing trim edging the dress. It seemed everything fell into place for this gown I had for a long time some wonderful embroidered trim with a gold metal chain edging on a fine lawn fabric in a paisley design. I am told it  was found in a castle in Scotland, it had all the same colors of the dress fabric,  so I used it for the sleeve ruffles and her stomacher. I made her wig of human hair and in a full up-do style although not over the top as  the hair was worn in the later part of the century. she has a perfect shape and scale her eyes are my hand fired enameled eyes she has a turned wooden torso and bends at the hips and knees as the original English woodens  did.  She is a very accurate representation of the original dolls. Please call or email me with any questions you have you can go to the contact tab on the home page of my website to do this.

This doll is fully articulated carved completely from Ebony wood, with enameled eyes. The only paint I applied was to her cheeks, her lips and her red shoes.  She is wearing an Empire style  silk dress with a cotton gauze overdress. a petticoat of the same gauze. A turban made of the same silk and adorned with feathers as was typical of the period. (thank you “Snow” my white parakeet for the feather donation, it’s OK he was done with them)There is an incredible amount of work involved in making this type of doll . The antique dolls of this type are German and have been called bust line dolls. All of the moving parts carved to create the mechanical movements are intricate and precise. Ebony wood is extremely dense and hard, making it a carvers nightmare if you don’t have tools as sharp as a surgeons.  So constant sharpening is necessary . Needless to say this was a labor of love as well as time consuming taking the better part of the summer to complete. This doll has  a wonderful weight when held solid but not heavy. a charming sweet expression which is some time hard to show on my black dolls in a photograph. Of course she is better in person. if you have any questions please feel free to call me or go to the contact tab on the home page where you can send em an email. and as always feel free to leave a comment in the comment box at the bottom of this item.

Lady M. 24 inch English wooden doll

Lady M is 24 inch tall . She is wearing the most fabulous dress, silk underskirt with rosette rushing. Her dress is made of beautiful silk damask fabric turquoise and light chocolate brown the photos don’t do this fabric justice it is absolutely one of the prettiest fabrics I have ever used.  I trimmed the dress in turquoise silk and some lovely antique turquoise buds with gold and green silk ribbon. I just  had to make her a straw hat with lace lining also trimmed in turquoise silk  ribbon and ruffle. She is wearing a pair of silver earring I made for her they have a transparent turquoise cabochon center . This Lady M is ready for the ball, dressed in her absolute finest. silk shoes round off the ensemble.

she is constructed as all of my dolls, like the originals bending at the hips and knees hand fired enameled eyes. She has a lovely surprise in that her head turns side to side . Hand stitched human hair wig and hand carved hands. I think she has the prettiest face out of all the dolls I have made her profile is as lovely as is the front view.

I hope you enjoy viewing her and please leave a comment in the comment box at the bottom of the listing.
