face web

This doll was taken from several examples of primitive so called bed post dolls.  Made by family members or a local craftsman, they have a wonderful naive charm that is irresistible . So I had to make some. this doll is wearing a corset and slip and a lovely lavender  batiste Empire style dress her bonnet is a cream batiste. She is the picture of spring with her small basket .  If she were the real thing she would date from around 1800 or so.  So simple but so much detail these dolls are a contradiction to the words simple or naive and, primitive, as their construction is not easily duplicated . This doll is perfectly aged to have the appearance of a 200+ year old doll and would be a great addition to any collection. Thanks for looking !  Don’t forget a chair as she does bend at the hips and knees.

face

12 inch black English wooden style doll Cecilia.  She has a lovely face.  Her dress is antique silk with a faded a muted floral so indicative of the Rococo period, a modest dress none the less very simple. This doll has enameled eyes and her torso is authentically made.  She has had carved hands and legs, the legs bend at the hips and knees as the original English wooden doll did.  So do look at my furniture and perhaps there is a chair you must have to go with her.

Lady Merriweather

fcclos

Happy new year!  This is the third of my 2011 dolls. She is wearing a beautiful dress made from  antique dark royal blue and chartreuse woven silk.  Her petticoat is made from some lovely antique embroidered tulle from France in a very light shade of chartreuse. The tulle has the same flower motif as the silk fabric of the dress. Under her petticoat is a slip made from cotton in the chartreuse color. I made all the trim from the same fabric as the dress, the gold bow around her neck is made from antique gold metallic thread that I crocheted in a single chain . the trim around her cuffs is also made from this thread and  crocheted in a double chain. I think this doll has a great presence her body shape is wonderful from all sides.

I hope you enjoyed viewing her. For more information please feel free to call me or email me. Go to the contact tab on the home page .

Lady Chatsworth

Lady Chatsworth, free standing in my doll room. she is wearing a dress made from antique French Toile fabric. This fabric is so lovely it has just the right bit of wear and age to make Lady Chatsworth look completely authentic her small toile shoes show ever so slightly from under her dress. She has a stomacher of antique lace . Simple elegance she stands 11 inches tall. She is one of my very best dolls to date as she has one of the most authentic looks to the original English wooden dolls . her expression has a slight look of disapproval with pouty lips.

This is Lady Hilliary she is only 10 inches tall but what an ensemble. 18th century silk gown trimmed n antique gold metallic trim she has a powdered wig and green enameled earrings and necklace.. She is dress to go out wearing a beautiful jacket in a wonderful silk that is of the same colors  as her gown but in a smaller striped, the jacket can be removed with some effort and so is not recommended , but it is the first time I have made a doll where the clothes were not completely sewn on. She does have a gold silk top completely trimmed under the  jacket.  Lady Hilliary is made as all my doll with enameled eyes and hand carve hands, and legs that bend at the hip and knees.

13 inch Lady Kennicott

frnt fetr

Hello, this doll is very lovely indeed. She wears  a dress of 18th century silk in rose and tan with stripes of brown green and very find gold.  Her underskirt is a khaki colored green which is the same color green as in the dress fabric. She wears a stomacher of antique rose with gold thread throughout the floral pattern. I have trimmed the dress in a fabulous antique french trim, the pictures cannot begin to do it justice. So beautiful. She has matching shoes,  enameled eyes, and human hair hand sewn wig. All the details are here to make her a wonderful addition to your collection.  She stands on her own here in the pictures  so you can get the full effect of her without the distraction and added height of the doll stand however she has a stand for display. I named her Lady Kennicott after one of the very first settlers here in the area where I live. As I grew up we  went to school with children who were his descendants.  The house he built in 1856 is a Historic landmark called the Grove mansion http://www.glenviewparks.org/The-Grove/The-Grove.htm. It is a place of numerous reenactments. while the house and Dr. John Kennicott are 19th century this Lady surely could represent an even earlier descendant of his.
